More than 320 Victorian schools have recently been recognised for their commitment to nurturing and developing excellent teachers.

Education Minister Bronwyn Pike presented the Performance and Development Culture Accreditation awards at a ceremony hosted by Strathmore Secondary College at The Clock Tower in Moonee Ponds.
“It is fantastic to see such a diverse range of schools from across Victoria being recognised for their commitment to establishing a Performance and Development Culture right across the Victorian education sector,” Ms Pike said.
“A teacher’s knowledge and skills are the most important educational resource a school possesses as teachers play a vital role in motivating and inspiring students to help create better outcomes for all students.”
Ms Pike said effective induction programs, multiple sources of feedback for teachers, customised individual teacher development plans and quality professional development, led to excellence in teacher quality.
A performance culture is a key element of the Brumby Government’s recently released Blueprint for Education and Early Childhood Development.
“The Brumby Government is dedicated to ensuring teachers have access to high-quality professional development because committed teachers, along with a world-class curriculum, are crucial to the future of Victoria’s education,” Ms Pike said.
“We have invested $10 million to establish the Victorian Institute of Educational Leadership in North Melbourne, a world-class centre with resources dedicated to help develop the best principals and the next generation of educational leaders in Victoria.
“The VIEL will provide professional development for existing and aspiring principals and school leaders from across Victoria, all from a state-of-the-art learning hub complete with community facilities right here in Melbourne.
“Education is the Brumby Government’s number one priority and we continue to invest in our teachers because of the vital role they play in mentoring and inspiring students so that they get the very best educational experience.
“We now have 90 per cent of Victorian schools accredited with a Performance and Development Culture and this number will continue to rise with a further 77 schools participating in the process before the end of year.”
