ACER has released research showing that there is a strong correlation between early intentions to complete or leave school and participation in later schooling. Specifically, the study found that students who were in Year 9 in 1995 and intended to leave before Year 12 were more likely to do so than those that intended to stay. (Press release; Summary; Full report.)
The Victorian state government and the federal government have resolved their dispute over student class rankings in school reports, which secures the $600 million of federal funding that was at risk. The federal government has agreed that it is enough if parents are able to contact the school to find their children's ranking.
